Derick Evans is an artist and composer living in Buffalo, NY whose work explores musical, visual and performative forms of storytelling, often combined with elements of community-building and outreach. He has been described as an artist of “radical hope and caring” (The Oberlin Review). His diverse output spans writing and recording pop music and music for films, to composing experimental chamber works for new music ensembles, to producing theatrical one-person multimedia performances. His compositions have been aired in Brazil on Rádio MEC FM - Rio De Janeiro and Rádio UFMG Educativa and performed by the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Verb Ballets, Wooster Symphony Orchestra, The Rivertown Duo, Norway’s Bifrost Ensemble, and ensemble DERF, founded by Evans in 2015 at the Fred Fox School of Music. In 2019, he completed his doctorate in music composition as a Presidential Fellow at the University at Buffalo.
