Derick Evans is a composer, artist, performer, and teacher living in Buffalo, NY whose work explores musical, visual and performative forms of storytelling, often combined with elements of community-building and outreach. He has been described as an artist of “radical hope and caring” (The Oberlin Review). In addition to his own performances as a solo artist and collaborator, his compositions have been performed by the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Verb Ballets, Wooster Symphony Orchestra, The Rivertown Duo, Norway’s Bifrost Ensemble, and ensemble DERF, founded by Evans in 2015 at the Fred Fox School of Music. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in music composition as a Presidential Fellow at the University at Buffalo.
