Derick Evans is a composer, artist, performer, and teacher living in Buffalo, NY whose work is rooted in a unique brand of personal mysticism and whimsy, often as a means of engaging the turbulence of existence. His compositions, which adopt both experimental and popular styles and, more recently, embrace elements of performance art, have been performed by groups such as the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Wooster Symphony Orchestra, Verb Ballets, the Rivertown Duo, and Norway’s Bifrost Ensemble. Evans frequently performs music and art pieces as a solo act or in collaboration with other artists in events that often have a special focus on community building and community outreach. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in music composition as a Presidential Fellow at the University at Buffalo.
