While composing the music for this trailer, I worked closely with director John Michael Nolan to capture his vision: a blend of foreboding, mysteriousness, intrigue, and drama that embodies the feelings that will be contained in his upcoming debut feature film, Heartbreak Falls (2023).

In addition to the obvious elements of sound design that I mixed into the trailer (like the sound of cars, thunder, barroom chatter, etc.), Nolan and I decided to weave layers of additional sound design into the music, like the sound of Niagara Falls which came from a field recording. Nolan felt strongly about having this sound emerge as the title text emerges at the end. Additionally, this sound is embedded under several moments of the music throughout. These moments are subtle — more felt than actually heard — but establishes the Falls as a subconscious part of this trailer’s sonic DNA.
