Derick Evans is an award-winning composer and songwriter, performer, audio and sound engineer, and artist living in Lockport, NY. His diverse output spans writing and recording indie music and film scores, to composing experimental chamber works for new music ensembles and producing theatrical one-person multimedia performances. Additionally, he has produced, recorded, and mixed a variety of recording projects in Buffalo. He has been described as an artist of “radical hope” (The Oberlin Review).

His compositions have been performed by the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Verb Ballets, Wooster Symphony Orchestra, The Rivertown Duo, Norway’s Bifrost Ensemble, and ensemble DERF, founded by Evans in 2015 at the Fred Fox School of Music. His music has also been aired on Society for New Music’s Fresh Ink Broadcast on WCNY-FM and in Brazil on Rádio MEC FM - Rio De Janeiro and Rádio UFMG Educativa on programs focused on new composers.

Evans earned his Bachelor of Music degree from The College of Wooster (OH), his Master of Music degree from the University of Arizona (AZ), and a PhD in music composition as a Presidential Fellow at the University at Buffalo (NY). In 2021, he received a Certification in Audio and Recording Production from Niagara County Community College (NY).
